The Super Bowl trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 literally aired about three minutes ago. However, it was only about a minute long, with one or two jokes ar additional scenes in it, and besides: by this point in the game, if you’re anything like us, you are rejoicing in the apparent humbling of Payton Manning, and drunk as a lord because of it.

So in the public interest, here is an extended trailer for the movie that has a bunch more footage that didn’t make the aired commercial.

This is a short post, since I am racing the actual release during the currently-airing Super Bowl, but the trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been released. It features a good look at The Falcon. It is awesome. Here you go:

UPDATE: And we also have five minutes of the actual movie that was shown as part of Thor: The Dark World. And you can check that out after the jump.

As I sit here watching the Kitten Halftime Show of the Puppy Bowl, I thought I should pass along that the Muppets will be live tweeting the Super Bowl, or, as the Swedish Chef calls it, the Sferndy Boom. Here, let them explain it while they shill for Toyota in the commercial below:

And, check out the Super Bowl spot for Muppets Most Wanted, after the jump

heisenberg_not_eisenbergSo by now you’ve probably heard: Zack Snyder has cast Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman Vs. Superman.

Sure, he also cast Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth – my co-Editor Amanda just said, “Yes!” when she heard that casting choice – but nobody’s panties are in a twist over Jeremy Irons. No, half the Internet has gone berserk over the idea of dorky Columbus from Zombieland playing Superman’s arch-nemesis. Of course, this is the same Internet that threw a rod when Superman killed a guy at the end of Man of Steel, and is completely missing the awesome possibilities that that choice opens up vis-a-vis Jesse Eisenberg, but that’s not the point right now.

The point is that, even though I am personally disappointed – when the botched report that Bryan Cranston was cast came out last year, I was as excited as anyone else, as I think he’d be a killer Luthor – I think that Eisenberg actually could be a good and interesting choice to play Lex Luthor.

It all depends on which Lex Luthor we’re talking about here… and I’m guessing it’s not one we’ve ever seen before.

captan_america_the_winter_soldier_teaser_poster2014 is less than a month old, and yet we are less than 90 days away from the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and that feels weird.

It feels weird because it is most definitely a summer movie, and yet it is opening in the spring, while it has “Winter” in the title, and we are talking about it from the planet Hoth. Which is a fucked-up metaphor if ever there was one, but it is cold and I am tired and I grew up in a time when summer movies opened up on Memorial Day weekend, which at this point in the year feels far enough away that it will correspond to the release of Google Wetware.

Why yes, I have been drinking. What’s your point?

Anyway, with the release date coming up fast, the marketing blitz is moving into high gear. Not only will a trailer for the movie air during the Super Bowl this Sunday, but Marvel Studios has released new character-based posters for the movie. And I will stream those posters to your Google Wetware if you’ll provide your IP address and check the box saying you take full responsibility for any and all brain aneurisms arising from the transfer.

Wow; I think I put a little too much Irish in this Irish Coffee. What I meant was, you can check the posters out after the jump.

avengers_age_of_ultron_movie_logo_1301720927There’s been a lot of news about Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man recently (including the recent revelation that, in the face of the delay of Batman Vs. Superman until 2016, Ant-Man’s release has been moved up two weeks to take Batman Vs. Superman’s original July 17, 2015 date), to the point where it might be easy to forget that, about two months before that movie’s release, we’ll be getting Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Which means that Age of Ultron is firmly into pre-production, and director Joss Whedon is beginning to talk about what we can expect in the movie. Not in the sense of any actual spoiled plot points or anything – Whedon is a professional, after all, and even rank amateurs know better than to say something that would set Kevin Feige gnawing on their doorknobs and hissing for revenge – but more in the sense of story and plot structure and inspiration.

But Whedon, being no fool, explained his general inspirations to a French publication, probably knowing that they would roll over and surrender the instant Avi Arad hurled himself out of a tree at them, screeching like a rabid were-wombat.

Which, honestly, would be overkill in this case. Because Whedon’s great revelation is that he’s modeling Avengers: Age of Ultron after another classic sequel.

No, not The Empire Strikes Back; Whedon hates that (maybe there’s a little rank amateur still left in the man). I’m talking The Godfather: Part 2.

For those of you bummed about the decision to delay the upcoming Superman/Batman sequel until 2016, Warner Brothers has released a new clip today from the upcoming Justice League: War animated film. Bonus – this film has a fully fleshed out Wonder Woman with no weird, forced Kryptonian origins, so that’s nice. Take a moment a be grateful that Zach Snyder and company may be taking this opportunity to actually get their shit together, and enjoy this animated clip.

batman_vs_superman_logo-996278732Warner Bros. has been pinning a lot of hopes on the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman movie (which won’t be it’s real name. They’re still working on the actual title. If I had to guess? Given how director Zack Snyder used a Frank Miller quote to announce the movie at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, I’m putting my money on: “Man of Steel: The Dark Knight Returns.” Jesus, I’ve already lost the plot here) being a big enough event movie to take a dent of of Marvel Studios and its billion or so dollar stranglehold on superhero movies. And with the announcement that not only has Snyder cast Batman, but a Wonder Woman (with maybe another one or two heroes to be thrown in for good measure), people were getting pretty excited for the movie’s July 17, 2015 release date.

Yeah, except it’s not coming out on that day. It’s been mildly delayed.

For about a year.

Who is Trevor Slattery? If you saw Iron Man 3, you will recognize that name as the supposed real identity of The Mandarin, at least, in the movie. This clip from “All Hail The King”, a one-shot Marvel short that will be included in the Blu-ray/DVD release of Thor: the Dark Work, sets itself up as a documentary that purports to answer the question. My guess? He’s actually The Mandarin. This whole befuddled actor thing is a ruse, a long game. He intended to get caught but, for what purpose? I suppose it will all bear itself out over the course of Marvel’s Phase 2 and 3 movies.

Or maybe he’s a starving actor who just figured this was the easiest way to score three square meals and a roof over his head. Beats the bus stop men’s room, I guess.

The Blu-ray/DVD of Thor: The Dark World hits stores February 25, 2014.

tmp_ant-man_movie_logo871384253Okay, so we’ve known for a few weeks that Edgar Wright, who is directing the upcoming Marvel Studios version of Ant-Man, had cast Paul Rudd as, well, Ant-Man. But what we didn’t know what exactly which Ant-Man Rudd would be playing. After all, we’ve got the original Hank Pym (wife-beater with an inferiority and occasional persecution complex), we’ve got Scott Lang (sneak-thief with a daughter complex who died as a C-Lister so that Brian Michael Bendis could put Spider-Man on The Avengers), and Eric O’Grady (goofy, weaselly thief who uses the Ant-Man suit to get himself laid and eventually dies a self-sacrificing hero)… and given that Wright is a comedy director, O’Grady seemed like the most likely choice to me.

So yeah: turns out that years of reading and writing about comics doesn’t mean that I know a Goddamned thing. Because Marvel Studios has announced that Rudd will be playing Scott Lang.

And that Michael Douglas will be playing Hank Pym.

Wait, what?
