Dissecting Spiders: Commentary Track For The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Trailer

tmp_amazing_spider-man_2_one_sheet_poster-1438492544I know I’ve been writing a lot about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 this week, but that’s because there’s a lot to write about it. Between the poster teasing the appearance of Green Goblin to yesterday’s teaser trailer, it’s been a big week for the movie… and if I’m honest, after a year of watching Doc Ock pretend to to Spider-Man, it’s nice to see good ol’ Peter Parker again for a few minutes… although considering it’s a British guy pretending to be all-American, wheatcake-eating Peter Parker, you could argue that Otto is a more authentic imposter.

But anyway, yes, there is still more to talk about the movie. Total Film has put together a commentary track for yesterday’s trailer, including comments from director Marc Webb, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx. Which turns the three-minute trailer into a nine-minute video, but it does contain a few tidbits about the flick.

And you can check the video out after the jump. But if you don’t have time to watch the whole thing, fear not: I took a few bullet-point notes while watching it that I’ll include after the video.

Okay, so what did I take from this video?

  • Webb said of that freefall that opens the video, “That is the first shot of Spider-Man in the film.” He said they spent a lot of time getting an iconic shot of Spider-Man in his original look.
  • Andrew Garfield spends a lot of time thinking about jumping when he is in high places. Ladies, do not accompany Andrew Garfield on a date to the top of the Empire State Building.
  • Webb said he spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to make Rhino look cool in the real world, all while avoiding saying that Rhino looks kinda silly in the comics.
  • I wrote this down during the freeze frame of Dane DeHaan: “If you can’t give Harry the haircut I like to call the ‘Fuzzy Osborn,’ just make sure to give him another stupid haircut.”
  • Webb spent a minute talking about how how Oscorp is the real villain, all while the picture was freeze-framed on Doc Ock’s arms and Vulture’s wings. Showing that Webb might understand that corporations might, indeed, be people, but they are no fun to watch a superhero try to punch.
  • Webb said that “The people [Peter] loves are often put into danger.” ARE YOU KILLING GWEN OR NOT YOU SON OF A…

Anyway. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in May.
