Your… Name… Is…: New Green Lantern Name Revealedon August 1, 2012 at 2:15 am
Ever since DC Comics revealed the cover to Green Lantern #0, and certainly during all the Green Lantern-related panels at SDCC, the big question has been: who is the new Green Lantern who’s carrying the gun? And how will he factor into the upcoming Third Army crossover event? And what does he have against sleeves? And will the man with his finger stuck through someone’s ring go off half-cocked against the angry, purple headed aliens? And why do I suddenly feel like I need a shower?
Well, thanks to the Diamond / Previews Website and its solicitation for Green Lantern #13, we have the answers to all your questions! Y’know, provided your only question is, “What’s the new Green Lantern’s first name?”
Publisher: DC COMICS
(W) Geoff Johns (A) Doug Mahnke, Mark Irwin (CA) Ivan Reis, Joe Prado
- “Rise of the Third Army”!
- Baz, Earth’s NEW Green Lantern, battles The Justice League!
- Meanwhile, The Guardians begin their final step in the destruction of the Lanterns by releasing the first of the Third Army soldiers!
Baz, eh? So it’s possible that our new Green Lantern is the director of really irritating musicals and Shakespeare adaptations! Or, if Bleeding Cool is right, his first name is really Barry, meaning if Geoff Johns loves us, we will see Kilowog saying, “Your… name… is… BarryBarryBarryBarryBarry…”
Or there’s another possibility, one that might only occur to computer people. You see, “baz” is actually a variable name that programmers use in pseudocode to describe an as-yet unknown variable. The general order of these variables is “foo,” “bar,” and “baz.” Meaning that, in the Third Army, Baz is a variable. After everything goes FUBAR. Considering that this is a Geoff Johns story, and Johns writes on-the-nose character names like Atrocitus, is that really so long a reach?
Yeah, probably. Fuck it – he’s Ash.
Green Lantern #13 comes out on October 3rd.
