tmp_captain_america_winter_soldier_poster_captain_america 1970456123I know what you’re saying. You’re saying, “Jesus Christ, Rob! A podcast? How timely! Only almost exactly 23 months after your last podcast! You’re a Goddamned radio machine, you guys are!”

True, true… but we just came back from watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which we enjoyed the hell out of, and decided that rather than just sit in a bar and talk about it, we’d dust off the old microphones and mixer and do it for public consumption. Hell, we liked podcasting… but what we never liked was recording one, then listening to it and taking notes on what editing and post-production we wanted, then taking another two hours and actually, you know, doing those edits and post-production, before finally uploading the damned thing.

So we tried something a little different today: we just sat down, shot the s**t about the movie for about half an hour, slapped the intro and bed music onto it, and uploaded it. This is live to tape, boys and girls; as you hear it is how we said it, awkward pauses, “um”s, and everything. But since that “everything” also includes fisting jokes, we hope it evens out.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier in general
  • Black Widow, and how this is the first time it feels like she’s a character who could carry her own movie
  • Deviations between the movie and Ed Brubaker’s original comic
  • What effect this might have on ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
  • The post-credits sequences
  • How the lack of laughter over a tombstone makes me weep for the state of movie-goers in general

And a bunch of other stuff we can’t remember because yeah: live to tape.

Here’s the usual disclaimer: this podcast is not safe for work. Further, we spoil a bunch of stuff from the movie, so if you haven’t seen it and want to remain pristine, give this a pass for now… but feel free to come back after you’ve seen it!

Enjoy the show, suckers!

Ok, here’s the thing – I maintain, and will continue to maintain, that Chris Evans has never been, nor will ever be, better in a comic book movie than his turn as Jensen in 2010’s The Losers. Now, while I might have been in the minority in that respect, check out the infamous Don’t Stop Believing scene from that movie and then get back to me.

I’ll wait.

No, seriously. I’ll wait.

Ok, so, now that you’ve seen that…HOLY SHIT THE FIRST TEN MINUTES OF THE NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA MOVIE…HOLY FUCK!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!!11!!!!!!1

Ok, then. So.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4, 2014 here in the good ol’ US of A, where, if you are very good in life, you can be repeatedly lapped by Steve Rogers and then given cybernetic weaponized flight armor for your troubles.

Now, more importantly, bonus material.

Hey, kids! Did you really dig Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, in her various appearances in Iron Man 2 and The Avengers? Did you wish you could see more of her?

No, not that way, you perverts.

Well, it looks like she’s going to have a very central role in the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier movie. And, she’s got her own stand alone movie in the works, although it’s just in the beginning stages of getting past being a twinkle in Marvel’s pants eye. Take a look at this new featurette focusing on the lady herself!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens in US theaters April 4, 2014.

Via Bleeding Cool.

This is a short post, since I am racing the actual release during the currently-airing Super Bowl, but the trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been released. It features a good look at The Falcon. It is awesome. Here you go:

UPDATE: And we also have five minutes of the actual movie that was shown as part of Thor: The Dark World. And you can check that out after the jump.

captan_america_the_winter_soldier_teaser_poster2014 is less than a month old, and yet we are less than 90 days away from the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and that feels weird.

It feels weird because it is most definitely a summer movie, and yet it is opening in the spring, while it has “Winter” in the title, and we are talking about it from the planet Hoth. Which is a fucked-up metaphor if ever there was one, but it is cold and I am tired and I grew up in a time when summer movies opened up on Memorial Day weekend, which at this point in the year feels far enough away that it will correspond to the release of Google Wetware.

Why yes, I have been drinking. What’s your point?

Anyway, with the release date coming up fast, the marketing blitz is moving into high gear. Not only will a trailer for the movie air during the Super Bowl this Sunday, but Marvel Studios has released new character-based posters for the movie. And I will stream those posters to your Google Wetware if you’ll provide your IP address and check the box saying you take full responsibility for any and all brain aneurisms arising from the transfer.

Wow; I think I put a little too much Irish in this Irish Coffee. What I meant was, you can check the posters out after the jump.

While the Crisis On Infinite Midlives Home Office was celebrating the Red Sox and their 8-1 trouncing of the St. Louis Cardinals last night with whiskey, bottle rockets, and eventual blackouts, Marvel released the new extended trailer for Captain America: Winter Soldier into the slipstream of the internet. Prepare yourself for Nick Fury, cybernetic arms, and being uncomfortably close to other men on elevators. Also, thrill to the reveal of the rumored Robert Redford appearance as Alexander Pierce, S.H.I.E.L.D. covert über spy.

Cool to see how they’re handling Falcon, and if you didn’t get more than a little excited at the glimpse of Bucky’s cybernetic arm, well, then I question your Captain America fanhood.

Not seen in this trailer? Batroc the Leaper. Yep. He is supposed to be in the film.

Batroc

Guess there’s just some things we’ll need to wait for the movie to experience.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier drops in US theaters on April 4, 2014.

captain_america_the_winter_solder_cap_3We were without power here at the Crisis On Infinite Midlives Home Office for the past several hours up until about fifteen minutes ago thanks to some truly impressive thunderstorms, and there is more thunder rumbling on the horizon. So for good or ill, my review / observations of Man of Steel will need to wait a while longer (although for a sneak peek, Google “Miracleman #15”) while I frantically try to get a post up before we’re reduced to drinking warm beer in the dark and watching Amanda’s four-year-old bootleg copy of X-Men Origins: Wolverine on her five-year-old Zune.

So in that spirit of quick, yet entertaining and informative: The Cleveland Plains Dealer has been doing a daily liveblog of the filming of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and recently released some more pictures of that movie’s principal photography. And several days ago they broke (and we rebroke) some of the earliest pictures of Bucky as The Winter Soldier… and now they have released some of the earliest pictures of Cap. And Cap’s new costume.

And you can check those out after the jump.

captan_america_the_winter_soldier_teaser_posterCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, the sequel to 2011’s Captain America (duh; what did you think it was the sequel to? Ice Castles? Use your head) is in production now, which means that casing rumors and news are coming out on a semi-regular basis. The latest news, from about a week ago, was that Robert Redford was being cast to play… something. But exactly who was anyone’s guess. Was it one of Captain America’s old, pre-freezing, World War II buddies? Agent Coulson’s angry and vengeful father? Batroc The Leaper? Leatherface (Yeah, I know, but the man’s spent a lot of time in the sun, is all)?

Nope. Redford did a press conference to support The Company You Keep, the upcoming political thriller flick he directed, and he point blank told reporters the role he’s playing… and it turns out that, yeah, we still don’t know what role he’s playing in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Because I don’t think Redford knows what the fuck he’s gonna be doing in the movie.

Why do I say that? Well, Redford told reporters he was playing:

Well, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. The head of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Oh, okay. The head of S.H.I.E.L.D. Got it. Thanks, Bob.

Wait, what?
